SIERRA MAR

Nestled in the Hollywood Hills, this residence is designed to maximize space by creating four distinct levels that pivot around a central axis. The effect is a deconstruction of the more traditional boxed-shaped structure, resulting in geometries that dynamically intersect, causing the eye to move from one angle to the next along a vertical path. With a resolved concept in mind, the structure was designed to fuse engineering precision with organic fluidity. Faceted aluminum panels make up the front façade, an architectural statement in dimensionality and sharp lines offset by a vintage nickel, textured patina that has a subtle reflective quality. The main spiraling stairway is constructed of pigmented plaster and features a steel guardrail, creating a bold yet soft shape that flows from the ground up. Natural marble stone stairs add a contrasting visual element. Overall, there is a warmth and playfulness to the interiors. Materials in oak and popular woods, porcelain, and limestone give each room neutral yet inviting tones. Natural light floods in through an abundance of glass walls, creating shadows that bounce off the curves, planes, and angles.
